Multimedia Designer

Consultant (Part-Time)

Reporting to the Head of Editorial and Publications, the Multimedia Designer leads the conceptual development and production of multimedia assets across digital and print platforms and promotional and marketing items. They will guide the interpretation and ongoing development of 21Hundred’s visual identity guidelines and drive the production of designs, illustrations and other visual materials for all of 21Hundred’s programmatic and communications activities and outputs. The role requires a dynamic and versatile designer who can originate strong ideas for visuals, translate them into cohesive design systems, and clearly articulate the cultural relevance and thinking behind their choices.

The anticipated workload is an average of 10-15 hours per week between April and December 2026, working in close collaboration with the Head of Editorial and Publications.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Concept Development
    • Develop original visual concepts and art direction for the 21Hundred brand and multimedia content, campaigns, and digital and in-person experiences.

    • Translate abstract ideas, themes or strategic objectives into compelling visual directions and designs.

    • Propose multiple conceptual approaches and refine through collaborative discussion.

    • Present and explain design concepts, aesthetic choices and visual strategies to internal teams.

    • Articulate how design choices interact with culture and shape audience perception, engagement and experience.

  2. Design and Production
    • Design and produce multimedia assets across formats (digital, web, social, motion and print) for 21Hundred’s communications campaigns, ensuring creativity and impact.

    • Layout, design and create graphics, illustrations and related visuals for print and digital publications such as Moya, fellows guides and annual reports, as well as marketing and promotional items and events.

    • Support website refinement and maintenance.

    • Incorporate feedback while maintaining conceptual integrity.

    • Ensure visual consistency and coherence across platforms and outputs.

    • Deliver high-quality design work aligned with brand and project objectives.

  3. Templates and Stationery
    • Create, design and manage brand templates for the organisation, including presentations.

    • Drive the production of outreach materials and promotional items.

  4. Visual Identity Guidelines
    • Coordinate the interpretation and application of the organisation’s visual identity guidelines, ensuring consistent, impactful application and supporting their ongoing evolution.

  5. Team and Vendor Engagement
    • Participate in team meetings as and when required.

    • Where required, prepare briefs for other designers and illustrators that the organisation may contract.

    • Work with the organisation’s vendors, such as photographers, to support delivery.

Required Skills

  • Strong conceptual thinking and ability to originate creative directions, not only execute briefs.

  • Ability to connect design decisions to cultural resonance, audience experience and communication goals.

  • Comfortable presenting and receiving feedback on design rationale in collaborative settings.

  • Demonstrated experience producing thoughtful, concept-driven multimedia work.

  • Ability to move between idea development and practical execution.

Desirable Skills

  • Web design knowledge (Framer and Prismic would be an advantage)

  • Photography skills

  • Project management
