Wevyn Muganda

Founder, Arctive Citizens

Kenya

Wevyn Muganda is an international development strategist, thought leader, and social entrepreneur working at the intersection of gender, race, and digital activism. She is passionate about decolonising queer narratives within Africa and expanding Black and feminist imaginations to challenge oppressive structures.

As the founder of Arctive Citizens, a civic tech and media initiative, Wevyn reimagines active citizenship and political participation by leveraging digital tools, storytelling, and grassroots organizing. She has also co-founded and led transformative initiatives, including ISIRIKA Kenya, a youth-led social enterprise advancing gender justice, economic empowerment, and peacebuilding, and the Kenya Coalition on Youth, Peace, and Security, the country’s largest youth-led peacebuilding network.

With over eight years of experience, Wevyn has influenced global policy spaces, translating complex human rights issues into actionable advocacy. She has worked with the United Nations, African Union, and leading civil society movements, amplifying the voices of Black, queer, and feminist activists in Africa and the diaspora. She provides strategic leadership and advisory to the LGBTQ Funding Circle, Chalk Back, Internet Society Gender Standing Group, World Bank Solutions for Youth Unemployment, and the Youth Climate Collaborative Hub in Kenya.

Wevyn is deeply committed to disrupting colonial legacies in African queer and feminist organising, fostering transnational solidarity, and building sustainable models of activism that centre the joy and well-being of Black women and queer folks.
