Khwezi Mabasa is a senior researcher at the Mapungubwe Institute for Strategic Reflection (MISTRA) and a part-time lecturer at the University of Pretoria, where he earned a master’s degree in political science. He is currently working toward a Ph.D. in development sociology at the University of Witwatersrand focusing on a gendered analysis of South Africa’s agrarian question.

Khwezi's life has largely been influenced by youth politics, student activism, and trade union policy advocacy. He has served in various leadership positions organizing around transformative social justice. These experiences afforded Khwezi the opportunity to learn about the history of racial capitalism in South Africa and across the globe. This political education was not limited to raising his consciousness. It also inspired him to take part in, and sometimes lead, campaigns aimed at addressing intersectional socio-economic and political inequality created by racial capitalism. His contemporary advocacy includes teaching, youth leadership training, policy advisement, and writing about the evolution of racial capitalism.
