Alicia Garza

Principal, Black Futures Lab

United States

“I believe that in order to reach a world free of anti-Black racism, Black communities, across the diaspora, must have political, social, and economic power.”

Alicia Garza is an activist, writer and the Special Projects Director for the National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA). In her role, she directs organizing Black domestic works through NDWA’s We Dream in Black program. Alicia, a co-creator of the Black Lives Matter Global Network, facilitated BLM’s momentum from a hashtag to a globally recognized political organization. She has helped to build the Movement for Black lives by engaging in narrative change efforts and direct action organizing. Alicia is also the Principal of the Black Futures Lab, a project aimed to transform Black communities into constituencies that can wield political power at the local and state level.
